morganknightPossibly two of the weirdest things that have ever happened to me in my entire life yesterday -- I had normal family time, and I helped cook.
Really. I went over to drop off a fruit basket for Katie and Seamus. Turns out Cat was there, and she and Katie were talking about Seamus -- namely, that he'd given himself more heart trouble, and was pretty bad off. Again.
...I should pause here for a minute to note that, in the last big fight we had, he was tearing into me for not learning, for not changing, and causing untold grief to people who care about me because of that. I wouldn't be so bitter about this if I hadn't had people think my charging him with the same thing was somehow inaccurate.
But somehow I got conscripted to help cook! Oh, it started subtly enough -- "Get a pan down from a high rack, Morgan!" -- and then went to "Help me cut up this meat." Soon I was shredding spices and tying up cheesecloth! Humiliation and despair stalked me at every turn! I learned what a butterfly cut is -- or at least I think I did. But... damn, in the end that was some really good stuff. I need to learn how to make the bread dough better, but... I think I'd actually like to make something like those mutton pies someday. Only maybe with pork, or beef... And that would be a really good thing to surprise Sashra with. She'd be thrilled if I cooked something for her.
Cat and Katie and Seamus and me... it was family-like. Normal family. I love my adopted one to death, but werewolves and Akashic Archmages are not normal. Neither am I for that matter, though I was able to put that fact aside and just be a little normal for a while. It was nice. Cat keeps talking about getting a house right next to theirs, for when she and Stephen move in and settle down together. I wonder if they'd let me move in the neighborhood, too...
