Life is evidently under no obligation to go well.

Stephen and I were discussing Holotheater plans on the phone last night when boom, both our cell phones get beeped at once. Mine is my mansion security alarm, his is Cat asking for a ride to the Moon. I should have realized that would about set the tone for the night then.

So I tell Stephen I'll meet him at the Moon, and hop in to go check it out. When I get to the mansion, the gates are open -- bad sign. And worse sign, I'm immediately under fire! Some real fancy driving across the lawn, through the veritable maze of cars and vans, and I'm behind the house and diving in for defensibility. Infinity didn't take a lick of damage!

The bastards had the front hall pinned down, so I bolted for the north wing. They'd been there for some time, already -- the place was torn up, like they'd been looking for something, and I think we all know what it was. I returned fire till I could lock myself in the pool room, overturned a marble pool table so I had cover.

A lot of people would probably laugh at me, but I really didn't want to kill anyone. On the one hand, these guys are just following orders and what they think is right, and on the other, killing them would invite a much harsher response in the future. It helped that I'm better than them. So I was in good position for a while, good enough to put a bullet through a few shoulders and drop a call to Stephen, letting him know I was late. I should have known he'd come to help.

I didn't have the chance to tell him not to, because all of a sudden I'm surrounded in flames, and my bullets aren't connecting any more. And then the pool table starts to melt. I bolt for the back door (hanging up on Stephen), and dive into the hallway, with them on my heels.

I honestly don't remember much of what happened after that. Most of it is a blur, of bullets and flying fists and blocking magickal attacks with Cross. I remember running for the firing range, I remember the door being blown open. And I found myself facing a Hermetic -- worse, of House Flambeau. I know because he told me. Seems he'd been set up with enough Periapts or whatever you call it to do some serious magick without Paradox worries, which figures.

I was actually enjoying myself at this point. He throws an effect, I block it. He hurls an attack, I block it. He couldn't get through my defense, although he bragged that it was only a matter of time. I figured the same.

All of a sudden, there's a ruckus from outside. It's Stephen -- and he's got Cat and Fallon with him. Against a House Flambeau mage.

Honestly, there really was only one way it could have played out, and we both knew it. He makes to attack my friends. I block the attack. He smites me. I'm actually proud of myself, a little -- I never in a million years thought I could move fast enough to block the attack in time. But I did.

The next thing I remember is waking up to find that I still had my sword, and Ron and Ellis Volasko had shown up to save Stephen's ass from the fire. What follows next is a blur, mostly... I remember Stephen getting a date, and Fallon having very good legs. I know we took Cat home, and I think we were at the Moon for a while.

I didn't sleep well last night. I know my home has been violated, even if Ron repaired it, and I know my sword nearly got my friends killed. I don't know how to deal with this situation, honestly. I'm scared.
