The escape came without warning.
I dragged myself from my blur, my haze, to realize that the chamber was shaking. As if an earthquake, or a volcano, were displaying its awesome power not far away. In truth I was not wrong. I'm told, was told later, that Nhairis, Simon and Siryn Valkonan, and Raven and Dori Starfire were all outside -- the most powerful Akashic Archmage on Earth, and four Masters, creating a giant diversion. Beyond that -- here I'm not entirely sure what I should believe -- a cyborg Jedi Knight.
I don't fucking get it either.
From what Nhairis tells me -- and I dread to tell Stephen this -- his distant relative Ron Volasko and his wife Ellis were involved as well -- on the other side.
I heard gunshots outside my cell. The next I knew, a woman -- Mer Harriss, from Rhydin, hauled me down from my bonds and all but dragged me from the building. My first clear memory was of the outside. The battle... The battle had become unhinged in time. One moment, cavemen brandished swords and flaming torches at each other across a wasteland of rubble and stone; the next, knight dueled with swords while mythic wizards cast spells from behind the ranks; the next, lasers and photon torpedos rocketed across a vast metal plain.
Paradox Storm.
I took some of it away with me. They couldn't heal me. They couldn't heal my injuries, repair my scars, through the haze of Paradox around me.
I needed my sword back.
I didn't know getting it back would make nothing better. Would make everything worse.
